Blue Hippo Tang
With its vibrant electric blue body adorned with bold black markings, the Blue Tang is also known as the Palette Surgeonfish, Pacific Blue Tang, or Hepatus/Regal Tang. This peaceful and beautiful fish is ideal for most large community marine aquariums. Native to the Indo-Pacific reefs, the Blue Tang prefers a good hiding spot amongst live rocks, but also loves to swim freely. To ensure optimum health, it requires ample space to move around the aquarium. Although peaceful towards most tankmates, it can become aggressive towards other Blue Tangs. If keeping multiple specimens, introduce them all at once into a larger marine system. While the Blue Tang will eat meaty foods, it is important to provide it with plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae. This will strengthen its immune system, reduce aggression, and improve overall health. Dried seaweed tied to a rock or a veggie clip should be offered at least three times per week. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are all ideal products that are easy to use. Proper care for the Blue Tang requires a slightly higher level of dedication and attention, as it is more susceptible to lateral line disease, fin erosion, Ich, and other skin parasites than many other fish. Maintaining the highest water quality and offering a varied diet rich in nutritious marine-based vegetables are crucial to keeping the Blue Tang in optimal health.
