Blue Star Leopard Wrasse Female S/M

SKU: AO9361Categories: Saltwater Fish, Wrasse

The Blue Star Leopard Wrasse, also known as the Vermiculite Wrasse or Divided Wrasse, displays a distinctive color pattern. The females or juveniles have a body that is pearly white with a mix of oranges, yellows, and browns, marked with light blue spots throughout the pattern, and a large blue to black spot on their stomach. In contrast, the males are striking with their neon green and blue colors, along with black outlines in a broken striped pattern running the length of their bodies. These fish, like others in the Macropharyngodon genus, require a fine sandy substrate for burrowing at night, providing protection. They naturally hunt for small crustaceans during the day and hence need a well-established aquarium to thrive. Leopard Wrasse are challenging to adapt to captive environments, but with proper care and environment, expert reef aquarists can provide them an incredible display. It is best to introduce them to the display aquarium before any larger or more active fishes to allow them ample time to adapt and settle in and start feeding on prepared foods. If you aim to keep a small group, it is best to introduce them simultaneously. Like other Labroids, these fishes can change sex, with the most dominant fish in the group becoming a fully functioning male. These unique wrasses are found along the East African coast in the Western Indian Ocean, with the healthiest fishes coming from the Maldives. Hence, Blue Star Leopard Wrasse are available only from this region. The Blue Star Leopard Wrasse’s diet should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, along with high-quality marine flake and pellet food.
