Cleaner Shrimp Medium

The Lysmata amboinensis, commonly known as the Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, is a vital member of any saltwater aquarium. It acts as a medic by setting up its residence on live rock or coral outcroppings and cleaning the fish of ectoparasites or dead tissue. Many fish value its services so much that they even allow it to clean inside their mouths without causing any harm to the shrimp. This peaceful creature is highly popular among home aquarists for its invaluable services. The Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp has a distinct pair of bright red stripes outlining a single white stripe running down its back. It is often found in groups among live rock or coral in the wild. In the home aquarium, the Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp requires a similar peaceful habitat and tankmates. However, some fish, such as Hawkfish and Lionfish, as well as predatory shrimp or crabs, may consider this member of the Hippolytidae family as their food. Similar to other invertebrates, the Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp cannot tolerate copper-based medications, high nitrate levels, or fluctuating water parameters. It needs to be drip acclimated before introducing it to the main system. Proper iodine supplementation is necessary for promoting its growth and molting. To supplement their diet, feed Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp with freeze-dried, frozen, and flake foods.
