Desjardini Sailfin Tang Large
The Desjardini Sailfin Tang, also called the Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang, Desjardin’s Sailfin Tang, or Red Sea Sailfin Tang, has a color that varies from dark to very light gray. It has light freckles on the nose and yellow freckles on the abdomen. The body has several vertical yellow stripes of varying sizes with intricate markings between the stripes on the face. The blue tail has white freckles. It can appear to double in size by raising or lowering its sizable dorsal and anal fins. To provide enough swimming space, a 180 gallon or larger aquarium is needed. This species is aggressive towards its own kind and conspecifics at times, but peaceful towards other fish, so only one should be kept unless the tank is very large. It feeds on filamentous algae. Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with other fish in the aquarium, it is crucial to offer them plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae. This strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and improves their overall health. Feed them dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, and provide at least three feedings per week. Ideal products include Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition, which are easy to use.
