Lawnmower Blenny Medium
The Sailfin/Algae Blenny has a striking appearance and a charming personality. With its tan coloration, large eyes, and typical body shape of the Blenniidae family, Salarias fasciatus adds visual appeal to any marine aquarium. Despite its potential to grow up to 5 inches in size in a home aquarium, the Sailfin/Algae Blenny remains peaceful, active, and entertaining to watch. Also known as the Jewelled Rockskipper, Lawnmower, or Rock Blenny, the Sailfin/Algae Blenny is native to reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific. Like other blennies, it perches on live rock, hides in caves, hops across the substrate, and grazes on microalgae. Therefore, it requires a larger system with a variety of live rock and rockwork. The Sailfin/Algae Blenny is typically peaceful towards other fish, unless the tank mate is similar in shape or appearance to the blenny. It is best to keep the Sailfin/Algae Blenny alone, unless it is kept in a larger aquarium and is a mated pair. It has been known to nip at small-polyped stony coral and clam mantles. The Sailfin/Algae Blenny thrives in well-established aquariums with large amounts of natural algae to feed on. Its diet can be supplemented with vegetable matter, spirulina, and herbivore preparations.
