Purple Tang Large
The Purple Tang is a stunning fish with a blue to purple body and a yellow tail and yellow accents on the pectoral fins. Formerly found only in the coral reefs of the Red Sea, it is now present in the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and in the waters off Sri Lanka. It typically lives alone, but can occasionally be found in schools in the southern Red Sea. Adults can grow up to 10 inches in size.
Due to its captivating coloration, the Purple Tang is one of the most sought-after specimens among saltwater fish, and is a popular Tang for reef aquariums and large fish-only tanks. If kept in suitable conditions, it can be a rewarding and attractive addition to any aquarium. To ensure their well-being, it is necessary to provide adequate lighting, ample free-swimming space, and sufficient hiding spots. Purple Tangs can be highly aggressive and do not coexist well with tank mates of similar body shape, especially other Tangs of the genus Zebrasoma.
While Tangs consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, it is crucial to offer them an ample amount of marine-based seaweed and algae. This practice will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression, and improve overall health. It is recommended to feed dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip, at least three times per week. Ideal products include Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition, which are easy to use.
