Red X-Mas Wrasse
The Red Christmas Wrasse is a newly discovered species of wrasse. Female Biocellate Wrasse have distinctive eye spots called ocelli on their dorsal fins. The males we offer have a green/orange body with reddish stripes and a U-shaped mark between the anal fin and the base of the caudal fin, but no ocelli in the dorsal fin. An appropriate environment for this species would be a 50-gallon or larger aquarium with a tight-fitting lid, a sandy bottom of 2-3 inches for hiding when startled, and peaceful wrasse tank mates, including members of its own species. The Red Christmas Wrasse can consume fireworms and pyramidellid snails, providing protection for corals and clams. It may also eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms, as well as parasites on other tank mates. For optimal nutrition, the diet of the Christmas Wrasse should consist of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, as well as high-quality marine flake and pellet food. They are reef safe.
