Regal Angel Large

The Regal Angelfish boasts striking vertical stripes in vivid hues of blue, white, yellow, or orange that give it its name. Those hailing from the Maldives and the Red Sea have a yellow breast, while their counterparts in the Indo-Pacific, Coral Sea, New Caledonia, and Tahiti typically display a blue/gray breast. The coloration becomes more prominent as the fish matures and reaches at least 4″ in length. Juveniles possess a “False Eye Spot” on their dorsal fins that fades with age. Regal Angelfish from the Red Sea, Maldives, Coral Sea, Fiji, and Tahiti tend to be hardy shippers that adapt well to home aquariums with proper care. However, this species is more challenging to maintain than others, so it’s best to introduce it first so it can establish its territory before adding other fish. A minimum tank size of 125 gallons, hiding places, and ample live rock for grazing will create an optimal environment. Although the Regal Angelfish may nip at large-polyped stony corals, soft corals, and clam mantles, it can coexist with small-polyped stony corals and less noxious soft corals. Fresh shrimp and chopped seafood will attract the Regal Angelfish to eat. Additionally, its diet should include herbivore preparations with Spirulina and marine algae, as well as angelfish preparations that contain sponges.
