Threadfin Butterflyfish
The Auriga Butterflyfish, also known as the Threadfin Butterflyfish, is a highly sought-after species that can be easily found in the aquarium trade. This species is generally hardy and can be found in the wild on inner and outer reef slopes, but the color and markings of the Threadfin Butterflyfish can vary depending on its region of origin. In some areas, such as the Red Sea, specimens may lose the eyespot on their dorsal fin. Despite its popularity, the Auriga Butterflyfish is quite shy and requires multiple hiding places in its environment. This species is not reef safe and should be kept in a live rock-only tank, although it will pick at the rock. To maintain a healthy diet, the Auriga Butterflyfish requires meaty items such as fish, crustaceans, mysis shrimp, and frozen marine preparations.
