These fish come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and are often camouflaged to blend in with the reefs, rocks, and algae of their natural habitat. Lionfish and Scorpionfish are carnivorous predators, with many species lying in wait for their prey before attacking. Some, such as the popular Volitan Lionfish, actively stalk their prey. To keep these fish healthy, they need a varied diet of frozen and prepared meaty foods, such as shrimp, clams, scallops, and krill. Some may even require live food, like small feeder fish or ghost shrimp, to stimulate their appetite. Feeding them with tongs or a feeding stick may be necessary for those who live on the bottom or within rocks. In general, these fish are safe in reef aquariums as they do not feed on corals or polyps.
