Brooklynella (brook, or clownfish disease) mainly affects clownfish but can easily infect other fish. It is easy to diagnose, the skin will appear to be peeling or sliding off the fish. Often this causes excessive white mucous to appear around spots where the skin is affected.
Treatment is fairly simple, but brook is a very fast killer rivaling velvet. So quick action is mandatory.
Ingredients:
- Ruby Reef Rally
- Metroplex
- Optional – Focus
Recipie:
Start with a 90 minute bath of Ruby Reef Rally. The active ingredient in Rally is Acriflavine which has been proven to effectively kill brook in the stages that are attached to the fish in that concentration1
After the bath you must transfer the fish into a sterile quarantine tank. Brook cannot be killed by copper or any other known medicines and must be “starved out” with a 6 week fallow (no fish in tank) period. Ruby Reef Rally cannot kill the brook in the free floating stages of it’s lifecycle so reinfection cannot be prevented.
Dose Metroplex every 48 hours for 14 days afterwards in the qt tank to prevent reinfection and secondary infections. You can combine Metroplex with Focus to bind it into food to insure effectiveness and reduce the cost of trying to use it on an entire tank.
