Emergency Treatment for Black Ich (turbellarians)

Emergency Care
Black Ich on Yellow Tang

Black Ich is named for its striking resemblance to marine ich, but obviously, black in color. Unlike normal ich, black ich is actually a worm. Being a worm it is relatively easy and quick to treat.

Black Ich is identified by black spots, as shown below, on the fish. They mainly attack tangs but can be on other fish. There are two strains, one that sits on the skin, the others right below. So it can either be small crisp black dots or more subdued, depending on the strain.

Ingredients:

  1. Prazipro

Recipie:

Follow the directions on the bottle, but usually 2.5ml per liter (as directed by the bottle) will get rid of all, but the most stubborn strains1. For more difficult strains, multiple applications may be needed.

One note of caution, ornamental worms, such as feather dusters, can be harmed by Prazipro.
